Not my rig and not a differential, but a gearbox on a 2005 Acura RSX Type S. 123k on original fluid, changed it out with 1.5 quarts of Acura MTF. This past Monday.

The last rear diff I did was my CR-V at 60k last summer. Now I'm at 97k and will change it again at 100k. The Pilot will be changed at 40k.

Out: Factory fill (probably)
In: 3 qts. Valvoline High-Performance 80W-90 gear oil (white bottle) and new drain and fill plugs.

Got my rear diff fluid changed at Nissan exactly a month and 750 miles ago. Will change (hopefully myself this time) at 150k, probably a synthetic this time too.

Tomorrow assuming nobody bugs me...
93 Ranger 4x4 Rear diff only
2.5 qts of Valvoline high perf 80w-90.
4oz of Redline friction modifier.

Hasn't been done in.. a very long time. Last time was with same gear oil, except motorcraft friction modifier and both axles.
Only used 4x4 twice, totalling around 30 miles at most.
Gonna leave the front diff alone this time.

AND.. gonna try and change out the transfer case fluid too. That hasn't been done in oh.. a decade.

Mileage to-date: 38k

Rear diff: ~1 qt Motul Gear 300 @ 15K

Tranny/front: ~5 qts same @ 30k

I don't plan to touch either for a really long time!

2002 VW Jetta. The differential/final drive and automatic transmission do not share the same fluid. There is no drain plug for the differential so had to pump it out.

out: factory fill gear oil
in: Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W-90, took about 0.8 quart.

My last diff fluid change was about 12K ago but...

Now that the weather has warmed up, my shifting is much improved over the stock fluid using the Gear 300; however, the cold-weather shifting - << freezing - was still just as bad. I've heard people say, at least for the STI's, that RL NS gear oil is the bees knees. Have you considered this as a good GF-5 gear oil for your S4? Also, did you notice any change after switching to Motul?

Every manual gearbox I've ever owned shifted like [censored] when it was really cold. At the track, the Gear 300 feels amazing. Around town it's at least equivalent to stock.

My car requires a GL-4 fluid in the front diff so I am a bit more limited.

1998 Toyota Land Cruiser 166k

Front Out - Amsoil 80w-90
In - Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90
Transfer Out - Amsoil 75-90
In - Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90
Rear Out - Amsoil 80w-90
In - Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90

Fluid taken out had over 100k on it and looked pretty good.
