Looking to take off the valve cover and look at the engine (for "sludge") on my 2003 Vibe, 120k miles. The valve cover has never been off before. I don't have any reason to think it is sludged at all, but think it would be something good to check out at this point in time and mileage.
Would I be wise to replace the valve cover gasket at the same time? It is a $15 part and available locally.
If I replace the gasket, do you put a bit of grease on the back to keep it in place (like is often done with tranny pan and oil pan gaskets), or just put the gasket on there?
What are good things to use to clean the inside of the valve cover while I have it off?
