OIL FOR ELECTRIC MOTORS ?

Depends on the size, RPMs, running temperature, and application. For small motors up to the size of a small room fan you should use a very light oil. There was a fantastic oil called Corrosion X, but I think it is now made under a different name. Some hardware store teflon sprays are ok but not as good as Corrosion X. 3 in 1 is too thick for small electric motors. Sewing machines have some special oils made for them, those oils are high priced, but are very good.

Can someone tell me what electric motors need lubrication? All of the electric motors that I have seen says: "Permanent lubrication. DO NOT RE-LUBRICATE".

Today most are sealed with larger industrial motors being the exception. Years ago most small motors had a small hole right where the bearing was, some even had a small cup with a flip top lid that held oil as did some automotive distributors and generators.

For fractional horsepower motors with bronze bearings, a straight 20 weight with an SA rating is all you need.

Larger motors usually have sealed bearing cages which are paked in a grease.
