Just wondering so I can have more useless knowlege, but how much do real ester based oils, such as used in jet engines and industial machinery cost, for example, how much does Exxon Esterex™ A41 cost?

Depending on the supplier (mostly Mobil) our jet engines use a base of Pentaerythrytol (PTE)
ester (a polyol ester), which has better oxidative stability than does the TMP
(polyol) ester.

Cost is around $150/gallon, retail; but this oil also contains some pricy additives as well.

We use approx. 7 gallons of oil per engine, so you're talking $1,000 per oil change/engine.

Well, TMP esters are cheaper (those used mainly in automotive formulation) are less than
$50/gallon, but an oil formualtion could be done with 90% TMP or TPE, but who would pay for it?

Thanks, that gives me a ballpark figure for people insisting that certain motor oils are 100% polyol ester based. I don't think they'd be going for $8 a quart.
