From two different sites, it seems that Johnson Controls makes batteries for Ford:

Motorcraft batteries are made by Johnson Controls.

The four largest domestic battery manufacturers are Johnson Controls (Interstate, Motorcraft, Energizer, older Diehards), Delco (Sears, newer Diehards), GNB (Champion) and Exide (NAPA).

Johnson Controls supplies Ford Motor company, Diamler Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Isuzu with original equipment batteries. So next time you go and buy a battery, or a automobile chances are its a battery made by Johnson Controls.

I don't think that is entirely accurate.

Last I knew, it was Johnson, Exide and East Penn. I suppose GNB could still be around, but haven't seen any of their batteries for a while.

What are the differences between Motorcraft batteries and the Everstart batteries sold at WM. I'm sure the specs are probably set by Ford but are the differences in plate size capacity etc? I am looking at size 65 specifically

GNB is now owned by Exide:

Exide & GNB

Data becomes outdated quickly on the 'Net, but for purposes of the OP's question, Johnson Controls is the maker of Ford batteries (at least according to two sources).

Walmart Batteries: Our area Walmarts were selling Exide manufactured batteries, while other parts of the country were getting ones from Johnson Controls.

About 8 years ago I bought a Johnson Controls battery from Walmart, it still is working well in my ski-boat, even though it was the cheapie one year warranty battery. Then our local store began stocking Exides, of course all those that I have bought have corroded the terminals, failed very early, etc.

Our luck has changed, our local walmart is again stocking Johnson Controls batteries. Their batteries have always listed the manufacturer on the label....

You can also tell with a charger and a digital voltmeter, Exides are lead-antimony construction, and the J.C. batteries are lead-calcium. All the manufacturers, except Exide, have switched to lead-calcium, and the differences are clear on your digital voltmeter....I have posted the info on a previous post.

Delphi sold Delco's battery Businesss to Johnson Controls, several years ago. Napa's are made by Deka.
