Don't know if this has ever been posted here, but this is a very good report. The reviewer seems to have done a very thorough job of testing this product.

Redline SL-1 Review

The hypothesis that underreported fuel economy corresponds to dirty injectors is interesting.

I have been logging my reported and actual FE for two years (well, actual FE for 12 years, but I've only had a car with a trip computer for two years). The reported FE is low. I might have to do a test. The OSH near me sells SI-1 for a decent price.

I dont buy the dirty FI thing, I think it is a disrespect for physics. Ive never had any issues beating EPA highway in mixed driving.

Injectors may well be dirty anyway. Ive never seen any improvements in economy from running adds, just peace of mind and definitely sign of lubricity enhancement.

I have been running only Shell VP 93 in the car since January. I am just about finished with a tank of Shell 93 with a full bottle of Red Line s1. I collected some OBDII data before I started the tank and have taken the same short trip (about 10 miles) several times over the last 300 miles recording data.

Originally I had a "Knock Control Adaptation" of 0.1 for the entire pre S1 trip. At about 300 miles (down to less than a 1/4 tank now) the "Knock Control Adaptation" value was 0 for the entire trip. (the software shows a possible data value of 0.0 - 1.0 for this data) It seems like the ignition timing is advanced aprrox. 0.5 degrees now. It varies quite a bit normally so it is hard to give an exact value.

I also noticed a change in the "Smooth running Value". This is recorded per cylinder (6 cylinder BMW M54B30). Originally I had three cylinders with values < -2.xx when running with the cruise set to about 60 MPH. The other 3 cylinders were at either -0.4x or +0.4x values. After about 300 miles these values showed - -0.3 to +0.18. (the software shows a possible data value of -25.55 - 25.55 for this data)
Code:

Before:

Cylinder 1 Cylinder 2 Cylinder 3 Cylinder 4 Cylinder 5 Cylinder 6

-2.05 0.44 -0.43 -2.22 -2.04 -0.45

After:

0.03 0.09 -0.3 0.02 -0.05 0.18

I would say that the S1 had a good effect on the three cylinders and must have cleaned up the injectors.

Was this on the 330? What gear did you use to grab those figures, out of curiosity? Showing increased timing advance is an interesting spin on a cleaning product. Now you'll need to watch after the SI-1 is no longer in the tank to confirm whether it cleaned carbon, or whether it increased the AKI of the fuel mixture.

Yes it was on my 330, I used the AutoEnginuity software with the BMW enhanced option.

In looking at the second and third data runs, I noticed that the
"Knock Control Adaptation" went up to 0.2 / 0.3 for parts of those drives..... not sure what to make of that.

I will continue to run reduced amounts of S1 for a while.
Maybe 1/3 of a bottle per tank.

How so? I wouldn't expect actual FE to change, since the car is still running closed-loop with O2 sensor data. It's just the trip computer's calculation of fuel used, which is based on injector pulse width.

I should say that I am skeptical of the claim, but I think it's worth testing it in my car.

I wish had never seen this thread......

Have fun with these additional data points....I may not check back for a while :)

I just happen to have data from my BMW from the last 7 years that includes calculated mileage and the computer calculated mileage for every fill up. I also recorded if I used any fuel system cleaner, S1, FP60, FP3000 or techron. I have been looking through all this data all morning.

I'll just add a few more data points for the discussion.
I run mostly Chevron or Shell 93 octane.
Until Jan this year the fillups in Houston were all RFG with 10% ethanol.
Now in Indiana it is conventional gas with 10% ethanol

The first time added the 20 gal bottle of techron was at about 93xx miles.

All I care about is calculated based upon real tankfuls... not computers.

I still think peoples' driving styles have far more to do with it than some additive.

Not bad, but I ordered 16 Bottles @6.75 from these guys...no tax..no shipping charges.

"We now offer FREE shipping AND handling to anywhere within the continental United States on all orders totaling $99.99 and higher"

SI-1 no tax..no shipping $6.75

dude.... that's a lifetime supply!

especially with the light dosage. And I thought I bought too much...
Begs the question: what is the shelf life of this stuff?
(I also got free shipping)

16 bottles is a ton. Since you're in Calif you could have went to an OSH hardware supply store and bought them for $6.99. Sometimes they have no-sales-tax weekends, too.
