Syns make sense for D-Roc because he's one of the few that really see E-X-T-R-E-M-E cold, and the cold start pumpability makes a difference for him. But for most of use, it's a moot point.
Plus, cold starts are not near as bad as they were many, many years ago. The old IDI non-turbos with glow plugs and no intake heaters really struggled to turn over fast enough to make the compression heat cycle ignite the fuel. Today's diesels with high-speed/high-torque starters, DI high-pressure fuel injection systems, and intake grid heaters make cold starts fairly uneventful for most of us.
