Hello guys,

Previous Fills:

Exxon Mobil dino oil 5w30 w Auto Rx - 99,000 to 102,000 miles approx

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 - 102,000 to 105,000 miles

Current Fill Information:

Mobil 1 10w30 Extended Performance.
Mobil 1 Oil Filter.
4 to 6 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil
2100 miles on oil. 4 months in crankcase.

Car:

1998 Honda CRV EX AWD. 4 cylinder.
107,000+ miles.
Air Filer changed less than a year ago.
Oil Change Maintenance History: Every 3,000 to 3,500 miles on dino oil

Why is my oil so dark after 2000 miles? Does it need to be changed after only 2000 miles?

This car is mainly street driven every day. 5 miles to work of stop and go driving. It does get out on the freeway about 2 to 3 times a month with 40 mile runs. I really wanted to go 10,000 miles with this current fill but I am hesitating because of the color of the dipstick. This current sample is taken in the morning after the car has sat overnight and before it started.

oil color means nothing.....If the oil was clean would you feel better?

I would think oil looking like that is doing 1 of it's jobs...cleaning

It looks OK to me. Some oils just get darker faster than other oils. Maybe M1 is one of them, I've never used it.

Your oil on the dipstick looks about as dark as GC does after 4k miles in my truck.

+1 Keep driving, no need to change the oil, it looks fine.

If you're expecting the oil to be golden honey through the next OCI, you're dreaming.

That is normal.

finally figured out how to embed pics.

so without doing a used oil analysis...

how many miles total can i go until the next oil change? Im already on 2k. Id like to go 10k.

I agree with the others. Let it be.

MMO only darkens the oil faster when it is cleaning up. Once cleaned up, the oil will darken at a normal pace.

Also, 4-6 oz of MMO in a sump is very little - it is designed for 10-25% replacement of sump total, one quart replacement being optimal for 5 qt sumps.

Your's may have a 4-4.5 quart sump, so one pint (16 oz) may be best.

i didnt put a full bottle of MMO because i have changed the oil in this car every 3,000 miles. So based on that alone. I dont think it needs a full treatment. The only reason i put it in was because i had a bottle of MMO laying around that I never used.

You state that you have MMO in the crankcase.
It is a good cleaner - most use more than 6 ounces for a dedicated cleaning.
This is why an abnormal darkening is occurring.

Consider it all good, expected, and normal!
