Depends on the company.

Zinc and steel are popular. 3M uses a composite material. Most are adhesive based and have an anti-corrision coating.
 
we have the 3m setup at my work, seems to work well. we had to get all of the lead weights off the premises otherwise we would get massive fines each day.

A few of my former coworkers got jobs at East Penn Manufacturing. Some lost them too. They test you for Pb every so often. Once maintenance man had higher than allowable levels 3 times in a row. That meant that he was cutting corners in using PP&E or procedures. Outtathere!!
