Well I have always used valvoline oil, and have had 4 engines with over 200k on them. So It can't be all that bad.

Yes, 10w30. The last 1, a 1987 s-10 with 2.8l I switched to max life at 180k.Ran that for around 100k, mabe more. Now I have an 05 GMC fullsize and run 5w30 Durablend.

The crux of all of this is that the UOA is more important than the VOA in gauging an oil's merit, particularly with the additive chemistry changes following API-SM.

I used Durablend for a time in the early '90s after it first came out. Never had a problem with it. In fact, this summer I discovered four leftover quarts of it, dated 1994. Gave it to a friend for his ancient K-wagon. He didn't have any problems with it, either.
