Mobil 1 does use moly. Just look at the UOAs and VOAs. As for Royal Purple...who cares?

G-Man II,

Be nice. There has got to be someone out there that is fond of Royal Purple, HA HA. I hate Royal Purple, when I tried it, it came out of ever orafice on my engine. Never had that problem with any other motor oil.

Please visit the UOA and the VOA section of this board and do a search. You will find that both Mobil 1 and Royal Purple have moly.

While searching the UOA and VOA section you will also discover that there are some great oils such as Amsoil and German Castrol that give steller results without moly. Chemistries of the oils vary.

For Royal Purple to be garbage, I sure have seen a lot used in million dollar undustrial turbines, and a lot of nuclear power plant machinery.

More oils use moly then do not use Moly now that GF has taken hold! M1,Amsoil,RP,Pentosin,Schaffers,Motul,Torco,Havoline,Chevron Supreme,Delo,Delvac 1300,Castrol etc.....all use moly!I forgott about Honda breakin oil and Redline!

Wow that would be interesting if I drove an industrial turbine, or had nuclear power plant machinery in my car.

What does that have to do with Car and Truck gas Engines?

He was just stating who was fond of RP.

Come on now, the guy just asked a simple question.

Yeah, I just took his troll-esque approach the same way you took my reply. If he didn't mean it to sound the way it did to me, then my reply is still exactly on the money. The answer to my question is the same as the answer to his.

Someone with the grasp of the obvious, or the gift of simple discernment would get a clue: It's doubtful a company producing lubricants, that are in high-performance, critical application, would not have the standards in place, to produce a quality oil, to sustain the needs of an internal combustion engine.

Royal Purple racing oil is one of the best oils for street or racing. I am on my second year running RP 15W40 in my 95 diesel without a change. I had a UOA and it was super. They make an excellent ATF and Gear Oil. Their products are noteworthy in the Industrial sector also.

Hey thanks for all the comments I had no Idea???
BTW I make 45k vets look like escorts.
The only reason I asked is the timkin bearing test that BTOG did in the vids and the Shafers? oil was the only one that passed?? Does that test mean anything in the real world??
I tryed RP 10/30 in my new motor with 2k on it and used 1 qt every 700 miles. Mobil 1 does not.

Hey Talon, what ya got done? I had a 1st gen TSI as well with a 16G, full 2.5 inch turbo back, rewired fuel pump etc. Nothing spectacular but it would hang with a C5 at my altitude with ease. From a stop.........well, you can guess

As for oil, I used 10w-30 Valvoline VR-1 race oil for the 40 or so thousand miles I had that car and the motor was spotless inside and ran perfect; very little consumption. I don't know what the insides of the turbo bearing housing looked but I really didn't even worry about idling it before shutting down.

Larger doses of Moly seems to have gone by the wayside because the new SMs are more about cleanliness, better gas mileage & environment emssion protection. I don't think anyone is questioning the job moly does in your engine. It's all about government mandates & the direction vehicle-manufacturing is going.

I'm just going to speculate here. It would not surprise me to see oil brands with heavy doses of moly not be allowed certain approvals on their labels after a one year probationary period - in which they're expected to come up with a different blend - or be denied that approval-rating. Maybe that's why a few major retailers of oils for passenger vehicles are discontinuing Red Line.... I dunno!

I'm no scientist... just have a guess that's what's going on. Another reason for the moly reductions may have to do with "clashing" with the new mega-ingredients like Calcium, Phosphorous.... etc.
