I concur, I've never had a mower run bad enough to get rid of it. I just get bored with it, want something new to me, and give it a tune up so that it runs its best (starting on the first pull). Then I sell it to someone for $20-$30.
Next, I go to a pawn shop. I can usually buy a decent mower that is practically new for $40-$60. I give it a tune up like Cmarti said, and then everything is good.
I try to use a little wd40 on the exterior of the engine to keep air and moisture from oxidizing the metal surfaces.
