I am looking for a less expensive alternative to buying Saab tranny oil from the dealer or other reseller ...

When changing the oil the first time (1999 5 speed 9-5), you have to actually flush the transmission twice before filling it the final time.

Needless to say, this makes the venture quite costly considering the cheapest I have found the oil is $12 per Litre ...

Does anyone know of another oil that would suit this tranny?

If you truly want an alternative fluid, you should get a VOA of the OEM fluid.

A simple spec comparison, with the available boutique fluids, should be able to get you an alternative oil.

Scott, did you ever find an alternative or did you go with the MTF0063? IMHO, since these are the same trannies that SAAB has used for a while, I'd be willing to bet the same alternatives people have used prior to the 0063 spec would be fine. Like Redline, for instance.

I did the VOAs and UOAs on this, from the MT fluid in my 04 9-3. Im away on vacation, but Ill put up he data when I return.

Flushing a manual transmission is unusual.
Having to flush it twice is a true anomaly.
I really wonder about this recommendation.
