I have Yakima crossbars on my LR3 and Renegade.... just the round tubular type. Does it actually work to wrap them in something to quiet them down? Once ski season starts, it'd be nice to not have to take them off for longer highway drives. A fairing is out at least for the Renegade - the sunroof slides on top of the roof.

Thanks!!!

Had Yakimas that were noisy but sold them. Curious and a quick search found that spiraling a bungee cord around the bars like an antenna is claimed to help a lot. Worth a try. Is it overall wind noise from the bars and ski mounts or from the bars themselves?

Try foam pipe insulation. If it doesn't work, at least you didn't have to spend a lot to find out.

Yakima used to offer a little winglet thing called a WindJammer (smaller than the fairing, and extends backwards and wouldn't interfere with the sunroof) that goes onto the front bar, and was supposed to reduce the bare-bar drumming. I don't have one, nor do I have personal experience to know how effective it is. I found them available on Ebay.

Thanks for the tips! No ski rack on it yet, I'm guessing that might help. Not sure if I'm putting a normal ski/snowboard rack on or a Thule/Yakima cargo box yet. That wind jammer looks nice. I bought some paracord last night for $4 at Walmart, so we'll see if that works. If not, Windjammer it is!
