Wix 24931: Multiple undersized o-rings

The filter is for a 2008 Suzuki GS500 motorcycle. I have purchased and used these Wix filters for about 4 years with no problems. Recently I had purchased two of these filters and found both had undersized (cross section) o-rings for the filter housing. I installed it anyways just to check and the bike leaked oil quickly. I went and checked some more of these filters at a nearby O'Reilly's and found they had undersized o-rings as well. The larger o-ring in the pictures is from a Hiflo Filtro (HF133).

I emailed Wix and they asked me to send them pictures, part numbers, and to mail the bad o-rings in. They said they would follow up with what they found out. A couple months passed by and I followed up with them out of curiosity. They said they had received the o-rings and had record of the receipt but they could not locate them and were unable to send it to the engineering group because of the misplacement. They said they haven't heard many complaints about this filter so it was probably just a fluke. Not very confidence inspiring.

Similar Wix problem for a Toyota Camry 4 cylinder. Called Wix but they didn't offer any replacement; didn't follow up but just changed to OEM filters to avoid the nonsense.

Exact same thing happened to me in the late 1990s, a Fram oil filter with an undersized (cross-section) large o-ring for the aluminum canister cap of a 1994 BMW car. No real harm done, but kinda made a mess inside the engine compartment. I asked Fram to reimburse me $11 for the car wash, and they did. As a fix I simply reused an old o-ring I had kept as a spare.

A classic and simple example of a quality control error. "Yep, looks correct, it's the same diameter." But they didn't check the cross section. Aircraft have crashed, and airliners have run out of fuel, because of incorrectly sized o-rings.
