Forgive me, but I don't know Bob. I was wondering who he is.

I started reading the first article on the home page and only got through a couple of paragraphs before I realized that "Bob" has not said anything about who he is, what he does and why he is enough of an expert to write articles about oil.

I'm not doubting anything, but to be fair, I'm not going to sign on to an accounting forum and read what a mechanic has to say about handling money. (I'm not signing onto an accounting forum anyway, just making a point.)

SO..... Who is "Bob"? And why is he qualified to write articles about oil?

As TaterandNoodles said, Bob is Bob Winters of Ocala Fla and wanted a website to educate the public about oil, and sell a little Schaeffer's oil on the side. He was very openminded about members mentioning other oils for comparison.

He was a prolific experimenter and did some very interesting things in his garage and backyard.

Later, Terry Dyson and others joined to talk about synthetic oils, additives, oil analysis, rsults of simple experiments, etc.

He had a stroke some time ago but appears to be recovering nicely. He sold the website and domain to Tony during his hospitilization. Tony passed away and now his wife oversees the website.

He is an avid fisherman as well.

I don't think he ever forsaw the tremendous growth of BobIsTheOilGuy.

I see you edited the OP.

This is an open forum and respectfully "BOB" is as qualified as anyone here who accepts points of interest as valid.

It's always a judgement call, some being easier to to make than others.

Plenty of good data to back up or contest opinions.

It's safe to say folks are here to contribute or pick brains.

Good info. Thanks

OK let me say this a different way.
What are Bob's credentials? (or the author of the articles on the home page)
OK, he is a Schaeffers dealer. Anything else. Schooling, experience, scientist, triboloigist, what? How do I know that the things said in the articles are reliable information?

The current article is written by Dr Haas "AEHaas". Dr Haas is a physician and surgeon if I remember correctly, I do not recall his specialty.

Quote:
About the author:
Dr. Haas is a physician and surgeon. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in biochemistry with honors. He studied motor oils since high school where he did independent studies on this topic. He studied the properties of viscosity.

When he was a general surgery resident in Chapel Hill he studied the flow mechanics of human blood. Today he continues his research by discussion of oil products with chemists in the field and chemists from the oil manufacturers.

He has personal racing experience in Formula Super Vee. He is his own Lamborghini and Ferrari as well as Mercedes mechanic.

Bob is a Certified Lubricantion Specialist (CLS) who wrote about his oil experiments and experience.

BTW, we don't know much about you either.

That's true, you don't know much about me, but then I didn't write an article about a particular subject that when people read it they must assume I know what I'm talking about.
I am a student on this forum. I expect to know my teachers credentials. It is rare for a teacher to worry about anything more than a students desire to learn. If you want to know more than that I'll be happy to share, but it's really not very exciting.
I sell oil, so I consider it a priority to learn more about it. How's that?

For those of you wondering if Bob is still around, he sent me a private message just a few weeks ago, so he is alive and well!

Excellent news! Did he say anything if he has been online and seen the site?

Thanks for the update!
