Hi, i just did some research about Motorcycle engine oil, that is available for sell in my country. Base on the following information i got High Viscosity index better, High flash point better, Low pour point is better. I using it on BMW motorcycle Ambient is around 100F-110F *37-45C.. so which is the best recommend. You guys are expert. !! ** Remark Amsoil is a 4t MC not a Matrix. Thank you

I'd pick the Shell Advance 4t 10w-50 - due to the hot climate, (or one of the other thicker ones). The Shell is JASO certified I believe.

Which oil is best for longevity??? any one of 40 or 50 grade oils in your table will meet and exceed your mileage expectations...

Which oil is best for lowering temps??? the 40 grades flow with less drag than a 50 grade...

Which oil is best for Horse Power??? the 40 grades take less energy to flow than a 50 grade...

Listed in order are the freer flowing oils to high drag oils by viscosity...

13.1 Mobil 1 4T 10w40
13.5 Motul 7100 10w40
14.5 Motorex 5w40
14.5 Idemitsu 10w40
14.6 Amsoil 4T 10w40
15.8 Shell 4T 10w40
17.1 Catrol P1 10w50
18.1 Elf 10w50
19.1 Shell 4T 15w50
19.2 Motorex 15w50
19.8 Amsoil 4T 20w50

Is at a single cylinder, in-line 4, in-line 6, parallel twin, boxer opposed twin (air cooled/liquid cooled)?

Mobil 1 10w40 4T is hard to beat in my experience. It does not shear appreciably over longer oil change intervals, especially considering it starts as a very thin 40w. Most/many/all of the 50w oils with a large spread between lower and upper numbers (5w40, 10w50, etc) will shear down to a 40 wt in a fairly short time. My feeling is if I want a 40 wt, there is plenty of evidence to show oils that maintain their stated viscosity (or very close) over an OCI, such as M1 10w40 4T. Using a 50w that shears down to the 40w range does no good if I want a 50w oil because of the higher ambient temps.

With that said, is the Amsoil a 20w40 or 20w50? The column is labeled 20w50, however below that it says “Amsoil 20w40”.

At those high ambient temperatures, please share with us what BMW recommends for your model of bike.

Thank you so much so M1 4t is basically the best.. from the table.

Thank you very much I have K1600 (inline 6 factory Rec10w40)/ R ninet boxer 1200 Factory recommend 15w50 / Super tenere 1200 (parallel twin factory Rec10w40)

The air oil cooled boxers are very easy on oil, but they do need a thicker oil than the liquid cooled engines. They seem to run forever on 40 or 50 weights, but when hot make much more engine noise using the lighter oils. I use Mobil 1 15W50, I know of several with over 300K miles on this oil.

Now that we know which bikes, M1 10w40 4T for the liquid cooled bikes as recommended, 15w50 sounds good for the R Ninet boxer being air-cooled. Still, wouldn't hesitate to run 20w50 in the R Ninet.

The M1 and Amsoil are roughly equal performers. Both can't be beat.

According to a Amsoil rep in a video Mobil 1 0w30 SM is the base oil
to all their auto synthetics and Mobil 1 5w30 SN is the base to all
their diesel synthetics... in their view M1 is the premium POA... but
its a personal choice whether to spend $12.95 qt for Amsoil or $5.40
qt Mobil 1...

In the 40 grades you can see the degree of equality between Amsoil Metric Motorcycle Specific versus M1 Auto versus M1 4T Motorcycle Specific...

Would a 40 blended at the low end of 40 be too thin? Would a 40 blended at the top end of 40 be too thick ? Would a 5W-40 protect less that a 20w-40 all things equal due to the shear between the parts with the higher VI number and the higher amounts of viscosity improvers needed to get the wider viscosity range?

How old is that comparison graph? I don't believe the Mobil 1 4T 10w40 has had that level of ZDDP in some time.

^^ Good post^^

BLS, please refrain from posting this information that has nothing to do with oils that can be purchased today. You posted the same outdated useless information on August 5th in another thread. It has been hinted at and danced around now I'm saying it outright. It is no help to a poster asking a question that is seeking to gain knowledge in being misled time and time again with regurgitated out of date information. The information is irrelevant and should be taken out of every post this chart appears in. Maybe there is a section for antique oils where people can share your interest?
