OK, we'll answer 3 questions here.1) What oil are you using in your Turbo diesel truck? 2)Are you satisfied with your oil of choice? 3) If you do switch, what will be your next flavor? I'll go first. 1) Amsoil Series 3000 5w30 2)I'll tell you in a week when my UOA comes back. My truck runs good and mileage is good, oil is very pricey even at my cost. 3) I have got my eye on a batch of Shaeffer Supreme 7000 blend, even the bottle looks cool.

Dodge w/ISB Cummins

1. Pennzoil Long-Life 15w40. Previously used Delo, but switched over to Pennz. for simplification as everything (tractors, trucks, lawn equipment, etc...) uses LL.

2. Yes. No difference in comparison to other oils.

3. Won't for reason mentioned above, but if I had to, I'd go with either Delvac 1300 or Delo 400.

In a stock engine 2003 GMC Duramax, I am running Synthetic Rotella T 5w-40. I stocked up on this as WalMart was selling it for $12.84 per gallon, but I understand that when present shelf stock disappears, WalMart will have it no more. I am using an OCI of about 6500 miles and I am satisfied with its performance. Had easy starting in -15F temperatures last winter, even without a block heater.

If I were to change, I would go to Mobil 1 Delvac, or its very near equivalent, Mobil 1 Truck and SUV. Had T&SUV been available last year, I probably would not have stocked up on the Rotella Syn.

I use the 5w-40 year round. I live near a mountain top, and almost every direction out of here is at least 5 miles downhill. So I don't want an oil that is too thick when cold, even in summer.

97 gm 6.5 td

1) right now there is rotella t dino in it. before that it was schaeffers 7000.

2) i love the price of rotella, but feel that schaeffers is a much better oil. better mileage and also noticed an easier startup.

3) will probably go back to schaeffers after i use rotella up. #700 supreme moly 7000 15w40.

If I had money to spare it would be nothing but Delvac-I but since I dont, it is good old Delvac Super MX or Delo 400. Best cost/performance ratio in the market.

I've got a 99 PSD with 127k on it

I am running Mobil Delvac 1 for the last 17k using a site sponsor (AV Lube) for analysis.

Very happy, no change anticipated.

Snoboy,
In your climate you can easiy use 15w40 year 'round. I like Schaeffer's, Chevron Delo, Mobil Delvac 1300S, Pennz LongLife, and Valvoline Blue.

I like the Schaeffer's the best. If you wish to extend your oil drain intervals, you could use Schaeffer's, Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40, Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W-40, or Valvoline Blue synthetic. Schaeffer's will likely give you the lowest cost per mile and possibly the best engine protection. Any of these will still be good at the end of the owner's manual max oil drain interval.

Do use good filters. The best is probably the Cummins Fleetguard Stratapore. Check at a Cummins shop.

Thanks for the advice Ken. Actually I own a Ford. How come we cant do sigs. here? I sent my sample in today so it'll take a week or two untill I can share the results I' crossing my fingers.

2002 Superduty ,Delo 400 15w40 in the Redding Calif. area the record cold is 17 F. usually in winter it is 29F . If I lived in colder areas . 10w30 Delo or a syn 5w or 15w/30or 40.

1999 Superduty 7.3 100,000 miles

Delo 400 15w40, Motorcraft filter. Only tow a waverunner trailer and a small boat, truck averages 19 MPG. OCI 10,000 miles (would change more frequently if towing or were burning more fuel). Uses about a quart per 7,000 miles. AVG winter low temp at my house 35-45 degrees. We have a desert cabin near Yucca Valley where it dropped into the high teens last winter.

2004 SuperDuty 6.0 PSD.
Trying different oils to see how they hold up on the shearing. Used Esso XD-3 0w40 on the first interval, sheared badly. This interval using Delvac 1300S 15w40. By winter time, I'll go to either 5w40 or back to the XD-3 0w40 for the superior cold flow properties since it will hit below -20 Deg Celsius here in Canada.

I've got Delo in my Turbo Diesel 4Runner as well as my gasoline engines. I've posted results from a coupleof Trubo Diesel Runners on here.

I use Delvac-1 in my Duramax and believe it's the best oil out there. No plans on using anything else, but if I were to change it would be Mobil Delvac 1300/

Well I gotta tell you guys I'm a loyal Amsoil user but I talked with my area Schaeffer dealer today and I am really considering given 15w40 Supreme 7000 a try. I'll be honest, its a price thing. Heck I can change the oil in my PSD, tractor and onan camper genset at 6mo. intervals and be money ahead. Always giving me that warm and fuzzy fresh oil feeling. Vetteman? Bueller?

Currently running Amsoil 15w40 AME in a 2000 Excursion. I just pulled a sample earlier in the week at 13k miles and sent it off. I was going to switch to 5w30 HDD in November but I might switch over sooner. I may go with a bypass filter when I do the switch.

Yes. No bypass just full flow. Two filter changes and a grand total of 20 qts. I changed out the second filter early because I added something last month that has the effect of cleaning the insides and didn't want to run a clogged filter. I expect the oil analysis to show a higher than normal amount of soot and metal wear particles because of this. The oil has 20 months on it and I was going to change it out at 24 months.

2003 Duramax with 22000 miles. Been running Delvac 1300 15W40 at 5-7000 mile OCI. Will be changing it this weekend. I use Baldwin and STP oil filters. Thinking of switching to Delvac 1. Cannot find it anywhere other than the rebranded Caterpillar syn oil.
