What is your maintenance schedule on oil changes?

00 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 - 7500 miles on Royal Purple HMX 5w-30. On it's third time using this oil. Overbuilt, underpowered engine that loves low RPM's. 129,000 miles

04 Corvette LS1 - 4000 miles on Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-30. On my second use now. I used this oil to stop an oil pan gasket drip the second I saw it, and it worked! It's driven hard. Will be switching to HMX like in the Taco because it's still API SL. 130,000 miles

13 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 - 5000 miles on first use of Royal Purple 5w-20 API SN. My mom's Jeep sees a lot of highway and city. Will crank it to 7500 next. I swear I've never heard that Hemi run so smooth compared to the dealership oil. 42,000 miles.

All 3 use the STP XL oil filter that is rated to last 10k miles. That oil filter uses a silicone ADBV and gasket with a coil spring.

I go 1 year MAX on synthetics if I don't make the miles. All vehicles run long enough to get hot and evaporate water. Living in a desert, I wouldn't dare push any synthetic past 7500.

I usually go with the middle and change each 4500-5000mls.
I could probably extend this interval quite a bit with those maintenance intervals set by the standards 30 years ago, but I better be safe than sorry!

Im not gonna be cheap on one the most cheapest yet most important component of car maintenance..

Wow Mitsu_Joe saw your vehicles and loved the age and low mileage. 1988 Mitsubishi Galant w/ 92k mls: Castrol GTX 15W-40
1997 Toyota Starlet w/ 120k mls: Gulf Formula G 5W-40

You obviously take very good care of these cars and I think it is great to see older vehicles being care for and still in good use. Buying a new vehicle just does not excite me anymore as it once did when I was a young man. I have other places that I would much rather use that money!

I've changed oil annually for the last 30 years using vanilla Mobil1. Mileage on the fleet ranged from 1.2k miles to 6k miles for the year. Now I change it when the Lubricheck tells me to.

Why does it matter that Joe Gibbs drove those vehicles?

Two mechanics at my former shop never used to maintain their own vehicles. They both neglected their rides - then sold them after 100K of service. But they would work on the work fleet and friend & relatives vehicles...... for x-amount of dollars.

My rez truck will get oil when it gets oil. My Tb gets it around the 24,000km mark or when reasonable to do so depending on weather and events planned. I think it was closer to 20,000km this go around as winter was on its way, the wife had surgery booked and I had the thing on blocks anyway while doing the shocks and struts.

The Focus gets 5-10K miles depending when I feel compelled to change it. The Silverado gets around 7.5K. My son's Silverado is lucky to get a change.
