There's the USS Pampanito, a Baleo class submarine from WW2 moored at Fisherman's Wharf. She's a museum ship.

The object in question is not ever located in the water.

It's not exactly a pillbox, but rather a base end station -- a small bunker nevertheless. This particular WWII relic is located at Fort Funston at the south end of Ocean Beach near San Francisco.
