What happens to used cars that don't sell?

There is an entire ecosystem that survives off used cars.
Contrary to what some here seem to think, most of the used car lots have relationships with nearby new car lots and are offered those trade-ins the new car guys don't want to put on their used car lot. Many of these new car guys also have their very own separately located and named used car lots.
Repos always go to auction and many lease returns do as well.
There is no such thing as a car that doesn't sell.
It's just a matter of pricing the car right and coming down to what any given Joe Blow is willing to part with for it.
If a car is a hard sell on a lot, it'll be a dog at any auction as well.
Those who survive in the used car lot business do so based upon their location as well as their keen grasp of what their local market wants and what'll it'll pay.
