What happened to the real pickup trucks with regular cabs?

The 34mpg Silverado is coming out soon, the current gen had bad aerodynamics even for a truck

My issues with new trucks:
Price tag.
They're now too tall to fit in my double car garage. No bueno. All my neighbors leave their pickups out in the driveway because none of them fit.
Full-size trucks are now huge, difficult to load and unload without a step stool or tailgate/bumper gimmick to get inside the cargo area.

I can't justify buying a new model pickup for the above reasons.

I have a 06 Silverado extended cab. I lowered the rear 2 inches to make it easy on myself and anyone helping me to load/unload. It has a 6.5' bed. I've loaded over 2000 pounds in it before (not recommended).
My grandfather still has his 1977 C10 with Reading box setup on the back. Last time I saw it he had over 350k miles on it and just had the heads replaced. Gosh I sure hope he gifts it to me in his will.

Mike
