We don't have a knife forum, but I thought the gun crew might know.

I have an old wet stone that belonged to my father,it must be 60 years old.But today when I was sharpening some knives I found a brand new one - it must have been my mothers, she probably got it when she couldn't find the other one.I usually just squirt some engine oil from my oil can onto the stone....but then I thought with a new stone,is there any special oil to use on these things?

Saddle dressing? I don't wear my leathers anymore (custom made in Australia, they have shrunk and don't fit) so I'll use some of my leather dressing.

There is a specific oil to use on wet stones. It is white oil or butchers technical oil. It is safe for kitchen use and used in packing houses. You can get some from butcher-packer.com located in Detroit, MI.

I agree with Steve S; in full BITOG fashion you need a full additive PAO oil that's USF and USDA approved that sells for $15 an ounce.

Or just use mineral oil from the drug store.
