Hello from Tobyhanna Army Depot, in the Poconos Pennsylvania. This arctic weather here lately has been brutal on my beloved Jeep. I had to have a new radiator installed 3 days into my stay, but the reason I need your advice is as follows.

The vehicle was recently diagnosed with needing the front right hub bearing replaced and some sway bar bushings, and other sway oriented repairs needed. But -

The Jeep shows hesitation when I make turns up to 5 minutes after I start driving. The transmission fluid is a safe color and does not smell weird, the oil change was just done with M1 0-40 and a Bosch filter. The fuel is Sunoco regular. It was just seafoamed 200 miles ago before the oil change. I always warm it up a couple of minutes before I start driving.

Question: What is causing the engine and transmission oriented hesitation after I start driving? (Cold transmission fluid!?)

Thank you.

Its cold in the Poconos. What kind of ATF is in there? I use Amsoil ATF in my Jeep, with no problems. I would consider a synthetic ATF like Amsoil or Redline.

However if you a Jeep with no cracked #331 head, nor cracked piston skirts, nor substandard Teeves calipers nor blend door problem then feel lucky if all you have is some hesitation during the first 5 min of driving.

Whoa.

RE: "...if you have a Jeep with no cracked #331 head, nor cracked piston skirts, nor substandard Teeves calipers nor blend door problem then feel lucky if all you have is some hesitation during the first 5 min of driving."

It sounds fuel related. I would investigate the pump, pickup, hoses, etc. Cleaning the TB couldn't hurt either.

When was the last time the plugs were changed? Tune up?

As always, it would be easier to diagnose if we were there!

Oh I forgot all about that. The throttle body was clean and the spark plugs changed 400 miles ago(!). I thought fuel may be an issue, but the fact that the hesitation only happens when I restart driving after starting the vehicle makes it a weirdo dilemma.

Thanks Man.

Thank you Pop_Rivit. Wow, that was an identical post on the forum. I really really hope its a $10 job and not a $500 fix for the hesitation. On that note - I'm getting the Hub Bearings replaced tomorrow at the Bayonne, NJ Firestone.

Thanks again.

It will be more than $10. Be sure and get a OEM or the company that makes the OEM. SteveWhiteMotors is Chrysler dealer who sells parts online at a discount, good place to deal with, no sales tax.

Okay, here's a bonus - the wipers went out; the switch is inoperable. But the hazards & turn signals only work when the headlights are turned off. Thanks for the OEM comment Donald; looks like I'll be heading to the dealer (sadly) very soon for the apparent Multifunction switch replacement.

Do you concour?

Hey Chris142 - I cant tell, but its a little bit of both doing the hesitation during the 1st 1 minute of driving. Im definitely taking the Jeep to the dealer in Jersey to hammer out the turn signal / light issue. Thats the latest weirdness. This stint at Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania has been very cruel to my vehicle. I wonder what Minnesota vehicles go through.

Whoa, slow down, Get it some place warm where it can warm up and de-ice. If the Jeep is the one in your sig, you would be better DIY ing or finding a good local mechanic. A 12yr old Jeep's problems are gonna cost you at a dlr.

Perhaps. The Youtube I found on replacing the wiper multifunction was simple enough. http://youtu.be/iSdw-7p7vhQ . Its went away yesterday morning, then at at about 17:15, the turn signals and windshield wipers were inoperable again. The gear shift lights also go on and off when I try to use the windshield wipers. This is all after some engine oriented or transmission based hesitation the 1st minute of driving of course.
