Hi All

Please check all your mail and computers for viruses--since we joined this forum we are getting approx 10 virus e-mails a day!

The message is only one or two words with an attachement--DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHEMENT!

I have been on this forum since it's inception and I have not had any problems. You can pick up a problem from anywhere. I recommend you use a good firewall such as Zone Alert. There are many good ones that are to numerous to mention.

No viruses here! As a matter of fact in the 5 years that I have been computing I have only had 2 attempts by a virus to prompt opening an attachment and thats with heavily used network I have here at the house. So your setup is the problem. You need to keep your virus DAT files up to date. As mentioned above get a firewall if you are on broadband connection. Another good tool is the Ad-Aware program which removes spyware.

You are not using AOL right?

Since this website is hosted on a Linux server running the Apache web server, I have serious doubts that you could have gotten the virus from here. I have seen instances of the virus you are talking about lately. It is more of a social engineering virus than one that exploits a security vulnerability. You more than likely are seeing emails from one or more people that are infected and have you in their address book.

Thanks for the reassurance gents--this was the last place visited that was new.

I notice that on one other forum pages there was a warning re a hotmail designate virus---I got that one too!

Yes the virus checker sorted it out and we deleted it.

This is an excellent site with gobs of info--let's keep it that way.

Thanks for the reply

Clare

I had been recieving a lot of spam from many different email addresses, but they all came from Aphrodite Marketing. I tried their opt out but still received spam from them. So I starting forwarding all spam received from them to their email address >[email protected]< it din't take very long for the spam to stop.
