Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Group III or IV?

Does anyone know if Valvoline Syn motor oil full syn have PAO in it and how much?

Last I was told was that it's a Group III synthetic.

MSDS for 20w50 says PAO. The others, Group III. Unless there was an update as someone on this site is saying the 5w40 also is PAO.

From a previous thread, to meet BMW LL-01 and potentially BMW LL-04, the oil must be Group IV or Group V.

The only Valvoline oils that meet that are 20W50 and 5W40.

So, Valvoline 5W40 should be PAO to meet BWM LL-01.

5W20 Synpower has some PAO based on MSDS.

I 'suspect' the PAO is the ChevronPhillips Chem Co Synfuild which parent Ashland also distributes. I'll 'suspect' further that the GrppIII is likely S-Oil (Korea) distributed by ConocoPhillips Co.

When I called Valvoline about their Synpower 5w40 they in fact confirmed that it is Group IV. By looking at some of the specs it's not hard to believe either.

I just looked at the MSDS's for Synpower:

5w20 listed 5-15% PAO CAS=68037-01-4
20w50 lists 65-75% PAO
5w40 doesn't give CAS numbers
5w30 and 10w30 only show Group III

Especially for those of us requiring ACEA A3 and/or VW 502, I wish the Valvoline Synpower 5W40 or Pennzoil Platinum European Formula 5W40 were easier to find "off the shelf" in the US.

They have them at your nearest NAPA distribution center, but be prepared to pay big $$$

I find SynPower 5W40 at Pepboys (San Jose, CA).

I got Synpower 20W50 last year at Kragen (CSK chain) for $1/qt.

Yeah they used to have it at my local Pepboys too; that was until they remodelled the store. I guess they figure remodelling the store entails deleting the good products and substituting them with a bunch of worthless [censored] like electric scooters.
