I have 12 liters of Total Quartz 5W-30 (ACEA C3) in my stash that was intended for a car we no longer have. Can someone explain why i could or shouldn't use it in my car that calls for MB 229.1 in which i normally use 229.3/5 ?

I know that 229.5 shouldn't be used in applications calling for 229.51 but i have a hard time understanding if the opposite is possible.

Yes. MB uses MB229.51 in gas engines since 2009 in EU countries.

As far as sulfur goes, my car is on E85 and the oil is SN rated so i think it's ok.
