I couldn't figure out how to phrase the subject any better, but my question is: How much of a difference does it make if you add a fuel additive after filling the gas tank, as compared to before? Most say to add before in order to ensure it mixes well whereas others say to add to a full tank.

The reason I ask is that I started to experiment with adding TC-W3 two stroke oil to the gas in the Burb, but was only able to get one dose in before I hit a few hiccups. I have now gone two fillups without adding the TC-W3: fuel was low while the wife was driving, so she filled it up; the wife and I picked up the GP from the mechanic and as we drove home with both vehicles, I needed to stop for gas for the GP and the Burb was down to 1/4 tank, so I filled it up as well (pre-measured bottle of TC-W3 was sitting in the garage back at home). I'm wary of adding the TC-W3 to a full tank as it seems it may not mix well on its own and/or a good bit will stick to the inside of the fill tube.

I guess I could add it to a full tank and run the Burb through its paces in an empty field, all in the name of mixing the fuel and TC-W3!

I don't think it matters.
I've used all kinds of stuff, including twc3 for years. If you add it before filling up that is great.

If you wait till you get home to dose it it still mixes a little as it goes in. Then every time you take a turn or brake the gas tank churns it up and mixes it in.

I've not been able to tell a difference.

You could have at least advised me to thrash it around some when adding to a full tank in order to give me an excuse to take advantage of the rains we are getting right now.

It really does not matter when you add the TC-W3.

Initially, I filled up from 1/4 of a tank. Then I had an idea of how many gallons it would take for a fill up. With this info I adjusted my dose of TC-W3. and maintenance dose of Chevron Techron Fuel System cleaner. accordingly.

I now use empty Gumout Regane bottles, which are six ounces to put in my tank before filling up.

My mix is 50/50 TC-W3 and Fuel system cleaner.

I fill the empty 6 ounce bottles using a pre-made mix, in an empty MMO quart bottle.

My system works great for me......IMO...it does not matter if you add at the fill up....or wait till after the fill up.....it all gets blended in with the gasoline....quickly.

It's not like eating dessert as your main course.

It's likely not an earth-shaking decision, but reason would dictate that adding the additive just prior to a fill would certainly maximize the mixing. That's the method I use when adding Hyundai-recommended Techron periodically to my Veloster if Tier One fuels are not continously used.

When I add Marvel Mystery Oil, Techron fuel injector cleaner, and Techron fuel system cleaner to my fuel tank I put it in right before fuel up and physically push and shake the car from side to side at the rear to ensure mixing ...

Is this for real?
I think the vehicle while driving does an adequate job of shaking to be honest.

I always end up doing TC-W3 after I come home from filling the tank. And yes, I do shake the car after adding TC-W3 in my garage when nobody is looking :-)
