The 20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die
Alan Richman traveled 23,750 miles and consumed more than 150,000 calories while taking the measure of 162 burgers across the country—with one goal: to find you the best ****ed assemblage of ground beef and buns this country serves up

The hamburger is a symbol of everything that makes America great. Straightforward, egalitarian, substantial, and good-natured, it is also a little bloody at times.

It may come big and ungarnished, the East Coast ideal, tender and untroubled by bones or gristle, everything you look for in a filet mignon but seldom find. It may be the West Coast model, swelling with vegetation, brimming with health and well-being, piled high with all that a seed catalog can provide. A great burger, regardless of regional differences, instills a sense of optimism and fulfillment, that all is right at the table or the counter or the woodgrain, screwed-to-the-floor, fast-food booth.

At its best, it eliminates the need for conversation or the urge to glance up at the TV over the bar. If you find yourself eating silently, eyes closed, ignoring everything around you, even the unavoidable burger-joint din, you have come upon a burger that can be pronounced a success.

PapaBear: Was it in town? (Market Street) Was it just off of 283? Hennigans, ClearView, Flavors, LC Jordon's, TJ Rockwell?

Thanks for dropping some bucks in the local economy.

The Upper Deck restaurant at the Las Vegas Club downtown LV has a 9lb burger, $50. Free if one person can eat it within 24 hours. 12 slices of cheese, 2 tomatoes, half a head of lettuce.

Best burger I've had in my life was The Elvis Burger at Nickels in Montreal.

Best in the USA is the mass-produced burgers sold by the Cookout chain in the Winston-Salem, NC, area.

Best private restaurant burger in the USA would be The Colonial Restaurant on route 193 in Webster, MA.

At Denney's Beer Barrel Pub in Pa., the burgers eat you!

I actually LOL'd when I read that.

I haven't had a single one of those, but I think I saw 2 of them in Santa Monica, which is about 20 miles from where I live-- monster of a drive with on the 10 west with all the traffic, though. And traffic?

Probably Flavors..(Large brick building). It used to be called "Black Bear Inn". That was one of the first buildings in E-Town. TJ Rockwell is probably the best place in E-Town. Glad you made it there. Did you notice all of the Muriels in E-Town on many buildings. They are painted by Wayne Fettro who has done dozens of muriels in the area.

I know the project was to try ground beef burgers . . . but the best burger I've ever had was a bison burger!

Yes, bison -- the American buffalo -- is popular out in Denver. There are several restaurants, not all expensive, that serve it. It's smoother in texture than ground beef, and by all reports lower in fat, too.

Loved the murals and enjoyed T.J.'s. A guy could get lost trying to get to T.J.'s...lots of hills and curves !!
We stayed at Cameron Estate Inn in Mount Joy on Oct 3rd, it was our 35th Anniversary. Mama Bear & I have been together a LONG time.

We have a teddy bear store called The Teddy Bear Abbey (Mama Bear makes her own teddies) and we visited some very nice teddy stores in Manheim and Lititz. Google our store name to see some of Mama Bears CHERBEARS.
We are always on the lookout for great teddies, great scenery, great burgers and great people (like BITOGers). PA is always a fun trip.
