I have a 3HP HF (don't laugh too hard please) air compressor in my garage. It usually isn't heated unless I'm going to be out there though. Have been thinking about changing to a syn oil like 10w30 syntech. Does anybody have a opinion on changing over to it or would I really gain that much?

I put Amsoil synthetic compressor oil in my 5hp Craftsman (DeVilbis) about circa 1980 and have never changed it. Just wanted to see how long it would go, about 26 yrs and still ticking.

Mike,
How often & much do you use that compressor? I have a 5hp single stage Eaton that I bought new this last summer & changed over to amsoil PCK about the time the weather turned cold. I might average 1 hr runtime per week & was going to change it about every 2-3 yrs. Will get a hour meter put on it by next summer to keep better track of the amount of use it gets but wondered what the recommended change interval is for this fluid.

SteveU - the Amsoil website says up to 8 times longer than petroleum and 8,000 hours. That comes out to 153 years for you! Seriously, If petroleum oil changeout in cars is recommended every 3 months, then every 2 years sounds about right.
