I'm not a light junkie and I'm not mori.

The girls are pestering me for some kind of Christmas present on my list (my list has zero items). I only ask them to use the money for charities or buy a goat for a needy family in some far away poor place. But they say they have to get me something. Every year I just blurt out screwdrivers, tools, a flashlight....so they said "OK, What's a really good flashlight?"

So I search the web and every dude seems nuts about Surefire. Are they cracked up to just how darn expensive they are? I don't want to start a torch war, but what do you swarthy weasels think?

They're nice lights. Biggest killer isn't the lights themselves, but the batteries most of them use that are a bit on the pricy side.

They are definitely very nice though - and if a good gift idea is something you want but couldn't justify buying yourself, they seem like a good bet.

Go check out the 4 sevens lights, which I like very much, put out a lot of light, are efficient and well made.

Some like a giant torch that looks like a weapon and feels substantial. When I need light, I want minimal batteries, size and complexity, with maximum light. Even the 123 battery unit does great.

I was rebuilding a reverse osmosis system in Alamogordo NM at about midnight with just one of these, and it was strong enough to serve as a spotlight for someone else working on the site, and also gentle enough (and small enough) to be a convenient worklight.
