Ok so what is the general opinion here on today's Supertech full synthetic? Is it ok for short runs? Add pack any good? or Should I just spend a few $$ more and get something ells?

When I checked last week, a 5-quart jug of ST full synthetic was $17. Quaker State full synthetic was $18 (rollback price) and Pennzoil Platinum was $20.50 (rollback price). I for one would pay a few extra dollars and get one of those.

We know the conventional can hit 5k easy according to UOA's. So in theory the synthetic could probably go to 6-7k depending on driving style.

It probably also depends on which manufactuerer makes that batch.

I dunno if the syn is different according to regions, the clear plastic bottles are identical to Warren's Mag 1 oil.

The Mag 1 spec sheet, including the meeting to the GM4718 spec are pretty impressive IMO. But at just under $4 a quart, I've no overriding need to use it when other name brands are on sale...

Mag 1 5w30

Mag 1 10w30

Kinda strange that QS and ST are the only "transparent" or "translucent" (clear) bottles of oil I've seen....at least at WM anyways.

Wonder if QS/ST are related? :) Or if perhaps QS just provides them with the packaging, who knows. All the jugs/qts I've seen of ST at my local WM have the WPP stamped on the bottom.

But yea, on a similar note, may as well go for a couple bucks more and get a "name brand" oil - but eh, I'd use it - I'd think it would have to at least hold up for 7k....which is "normal" maintenance for most vehicles I've seen nowadays....

A friend of mine uses it in his CTS and changes according to the GM OLM. Is bottled by Warren, meets GM4718m. He's had no problems whatsoever with it.

Super Tech oil is made by Penzoil or Exxon, depending which side of the Mississippi you live on. Warren (Warren Distribution) is a marketing company that packages lubricants with whatever name you want on the label. (Wal-Mart - Super Tech) Warren doesn't make or drill for oil, just fills up the Quart and Gallon jugs after the Penzoil and Exxon trucks unload..

You know this to be fact?

Here's my understading about it in my area. The synthetic and the 5w20 say WPP on the bottom meaning Warren Perf. Packaging. which is a division/subsidiary of Warren Distribution. For those products they blend their own product and (as said) is said to be the same as MAG 1 oil and trans fluid.

The other products say WNE on the bottom. That could mean Warren NorthEast as there is a similar plant in WV to the WPP plant in Iowa. Whether the product made and bottled there is the same as MAG 1 products, I don't know. The other quart bottles that used to be shaped like Exxon SuperFlo, MC5k were Exxon, but the quart bottles now all have the same shape as the old Havoline (not DS) bottles.

As for the ST syn, I'd spend the extra buck a jug, and go with QS UD/HP.
