sulfonated "burned sugar" catalyst discussion

very interesting

Has anyone tried a mix of fatty acid methyl ester and straight vegetable oil? The less processing, the lower the cost.

I'm struggling to find methaonl down here...apparently some miscreants use it (plus over the counter flu medication) to create some or another undesirable product.

So it's hard to get methanol without being mixed with nitro and castor oil.

Wonder if cold meds can be used to make biodiesel. They seem to be available anywhere.

oilyriser,
thanking more on your post.

There's one guy on another BB who adds only sufficient catalyst to form a partially esterified product, all of which remains in solution. i.e. it's stable, but not properly biodiesel.

He runs as is. (and doesn't have to worry about glycerine).

Not for an expensive car for sure.

Others on the same BB run WVO, and cut it with low octane unleaded to get it to run (5-30% depending on ambient). Some use white spirits, but the petrol at least keeps it taxed at the appropriate rate.

I wonder if anyone has thought about or tried using activated carbon in place of burned sugar?

Or maybe bucky balls/tubes?

It almost sounds to me like the burned sugar process is just making some sort of carbon matrix....

Just a thought....
