STP oil filters are supposed to be pretty good

I've seen pics of Chinese filters that looked well made. Going to do an oil change soon so I picked one up .

I definitely had a hard time accepting the fact that a Chinese filter is better made than a made in USA one.

Blame Purolator for USA filters being worse than Chinese. Things really went downhill when Mann bought Wix and then cheapened Wix to the Purolator garbage

yes while purolator has gone downhill, it’s important to remember that fram has also been destroyed by first brands.

They didn't with this one either, it's made by Premium Gaurd for STP. Just like the Carquest Premium is made for Carquest/Advance Auto Parts and the MicroGard Select is made by Premium Guard for O'Reilly's.

Took me a while to get use to it too. At least the PG made Chinese filters are great quality, can’t say for other brands.

PG is starting to dominate the oil filter market and I’m good with it. The construction, quality and consistency of a good filter is much appreciated. It pains me to know that same filter an auto parts store or company like stp slapped their name on it and it’s double or more the price.

15 years ago STP were made by ChampLab.

In some regions, AZ STP filters like the XL are still made by Champ Labs US. The lower tier basic blue STP like topic, now trend towards what appears to be PG made, in China.

To avoid COO China I am going to look into these Korean made M&H again. Used to be able to get them at a good price at the local Hyundai dealer. Used to be super high quality.

The P/N crosses to a WIX 51334 which is one version of the Universal Asian Spin-On (Minus Toyota)
The tall/skinny version is: WIX 57356

Another Korean option are Pentius filters. Almost if not identical to PG filters.
