I got one of these on an oil sale recently. Looking inside, the metal support has fairly big openings that are rectangular in shape around the filter media. I presume that this is an E-core or similar.

I am concerned about it, and might as well use one of the better quality filters next time. Waste not, want not, but there is a Bosch Distance Plus waiting, for instance.

What is your opinion about this line?

I think there are some pics of them if you do a search. I don't like the big open pleats or the lack of them. They pleats look like someone took a box and bent the pleats themselves. I wouldn't put them on any vehicle I owned, unless it was a last resort. That is just my opinion. The Bosch Distance Plus is a 15,000 mile filter, it is TOP NOTCH!

Is the center cage metal or nylon/plastic looking? ... is it black with big open window? If so, it's an E-core design.

I won't use them.

I've used the supertech which is the same filter, but in my application they had no overly large gaps in the media. It looked like it had plenty of media. After 10,000 miles the media held up and endcaps were secure. The media and plastic cage don't bother me at all. I like those parts better than the ones found on a fram. I like the thread end bypass, but i'm not sure it works all that well being it's rubber. I would use it if you have it on hand, but I wouldn't buy any more.

I'll be using them, but not on my car. I have a couple that were bought by accident and have been sitting a couple years. I'll use them to filter used low mileage oil from my collector cars.

I use them, but only when they're reboxed Hergestellt-in-Deutschland Hengst Energetic filters - one big benefit to a cartridge filter! Most of the boxes I open have no-name filters from Korea, Bulgaria, India or Mexico. Those go back on the shelf.

for same money, go to advanced auto parts or KMART and buy Purolator with metal endcaps and steel cage inside. Napa and carquest are made by Wix and are also better than STP/ecore [censored]
