155K miles I'm starting to notice a puff of smoke out of the exhaust when I drive away on a cold engine. I have done 2 arx treatment 20K miles ago, currently using chevron supreme 10w30. Should I be using a different type of oil to minimize this problem or would it just get worse? Thanks for any help

startup smoke after the engine been sitting overnite, or better yet: blue smoke coming out of your tailpipe while engine-braking down a slope with gas pedal off (throttle closed) usually means (from most likely down to least-likely, in the following order):

(a) your valve guide is worn.

(b) bad valve guide seals

(c)oil slipping past piston rings? (remote, but not impossible)

(d) PCV valve clogged (very remote but seen this happening before).

Thicken the oil up a little maybe 5 or 10w40 is my suggestion. And I agree with Quests comments. If it only smokes after sitting awhile and cold Hmmm...what color is the smoke? What engine? Is there any measureable amount of any engine fluid getting gone? There may be other possibilities. Good luck.
Rickey.

vehicle in question is a 91 Pathfinder 3.0L V6 with 155k miles, I only notice the blue puff of smoke after the truck has been sitting over night.. no oil consumption in 3500 oci. currently using 10w30 chevron supreme.

Is this a mustang? What size engine? Older GM's, especially the 4.3 V6, were notorious for that. But look at it this way, you have a coat of oil over the cylinders when you crank it up, where most where starts anyway. Could be a good thing, depending on exactly what the problem is.
