What is your favorite sleeper oil in the following categories:

A: Dino

B: synthetic blend

C: full synthetic

D: high mileage

E: oil filter

Also what makes a product a "sleeper?"

A sleeper oil to me would be an underdog that doesn`t get alot of mainstream advertising, like Havoline. I`d never heard of it until I joined BITOG. On the other hand,I remember being a little kid seeing Pennzoil ads everywhere. When I thought of motor oil,Pennzoil always came to mind.

Full synthetic sleepers have to be the ones by NAPA. An awful lot of people out there have never been in a NAPA store and have no idea of their products.

Kendall is another lesser known name. And unless you are REALLY into oil or car maintenance, you have not heard of Redline.

I am talking about John Q. Public, and the regular Johns and Janes.

A: Dino - Peak FAR, Chevron Supreme and Havoline $0.49/qt after rebate.

B: Synthetic blend - Maxlife $4/gal after rebate.

C: Full synthetic - Valvoline Synpower and Maxlife as low as $0.49/qt after rebate.

D: High mileage - Maxlife $4/gal after rebate.

E: Oil filter - Bosch as low as $2 online after rebate.

I had Maxlife full synthetic and semi-synthetic and it is a high mileage oil. I only bought oil when it was dirt cheap or free after rebate, the only real cost was tax and stamps. All dino and semi-synthetic was used up, all oil remaining in my stash is synthetic: Mobil 1, Valvoline Synpower, Pennzoil Platinum, Pennzoil Ultra and Maxlife full synthetic.

Maxlife full synthetic was a sleeper oil 4-5 years ago, every few months Kragen had it on sale and with rebate the cost was as little as $0.49/qt, then Valvoline Synpower took its place, as late as last year I bought 4 gallon Synpower for $0.99/gal after rebate.

+1
Valvoline makes these and they are great.

A. Valvoline White Bottle/SuperTech
B. Motorcraft Synblend
C. SuperTech Full Syn
D. SuperTech High Mileage
E. ACdelco/SuperTech (non-ecore)

I suppose a sleeper in oil is an oil that you expect to be nothing special turning out great UOA's. Its hard with oil. Easy with movies or something.

I would have to guess or say in my honest opinion; Brad Penn SM 5w20 since I got 2 cases of the stuff last weekend for $23 a case.

Currently using the 5qt jug of QS 5w20 I got two weeks ago at wal mart for $10

A (Dino): Supertech
B (Blend): Rotella T5 10w30
C (Full Syn): Rotella T6 5w-40
D (Hi Mi): No idea
E: PureOne

Supertech because it's cheap. Rotella T5 because it has nearly the same cold-weather properties as Rotella T6 and is a very robust oil. Rotella T6 because it's a good, cheap full-syn product. PureOne filters because they supposedly flow well, filter well, are cheap, and the can is coated in that grippy stuff.

Yes, I like the yellow fairy dust ... when it isn't inside the filter.

Formula shell for dino
kendall syn blend with liquid titanium
G synthetic for syn
Kendall high mileage liquid titanium
Fram base filter
