Have you guys seen this yet? Schwarzenegger Opens Stop on 'Hydrogen Highway'.

No offense to you, I'm sure you're just mocking the typical unpleasable tree hugger nitpicking, but people overlook the fact that gas engines emit water too...quote:

Has there been any progress made on producing large quantities hydrogen by electrolysis, breaking water into its component hydrogen and oxygen? I caught a glimpse of an article about electrolysis for oxygen production that considers hydrogen an unwanted by-product. Seems to me that ‘unwanted by-product’ is actually quite valuable.quote:

From the article:
"Dave Barthmuss, a GM spokesman, said that automakers consider cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells their "Holy Grail," since they would release only water as emissions and could end America's dependence on foreign oil."
Not until we figure out how to make very large quantities of hydrogen from something other than current fossil fuels as it is now. And as far as pollution reduction, currently, all we would accomplish is to move the pollution to the hydrogen production facility unless someone invents a process to inexpensively sequester the carbon during production.
What seems to be lacking in any of the Mary Poppins hydrogen news releases is any reference to a solid analysis of what it would take to make a hydrogen fueled system work in the real world. I don't expect to see that analysis in the forseable future.quote:

All the engineers and scientists in the world missed that one. Glad you caught it. Mankind is now saved. Thanks.

You would be better off just to use the electricity to recharge batteries in an electric car.
If a hydrogen system were to be developed, the only reasonable way to produce the hydrogen is by electrolysis of water.quote:
