Important question, car in my signature just drank a redline si-1 fuel system cleaner and blew my intake with seafoam to clean it up a bit. Would either of these throw off a UOA? I have been itching to test this cars liking to the pu I've been cleaning her out with due to the unknown oil history and 164k/15 years old.

One of the additives in Red Line SI-1 may increase the viscosity of your oil. PEA will supposedly thicken the oil if it gets mixed. PEA is also in Techron. Techron comes in Chevron gasoline.

You may see increased soft metal wear. Additives tend to do that, though I wouldnt worry about it that much. The $25 or so for a UOA isnt much money, and youll get insight into whether what you did effected the wear patterns. Good that youre thinking about sampling, Id do it before all the adds next time if you can.

Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone know how the amount of Techron is a tankful of Chevron gas compares to another tankful of gas with a bottle of Techron poured in?

I'm sure the PEA in the Techron bottle is highly concentrated, and a very much larger percentage....than gasoline. If it wasn't, you could use the gasoline as the fuel system cleaner.

I think he means the amount of techron in chevron gas compared to the amount of techron in non-chevron gas if you added a bottle of techron concentrate to non-chevron gasoline. I would think that you would get more techron if you added a bottle of techron concentrate to regular gas then if you just bought chevron gas.

That's correct, there's less "Techron" at the pump, than you are getting in that 12 (or is it 20?) ounce bottle.....which is why they often refer to it as "Chevron Techron Concentrate".......

To the op though.....I'd give the additives a couple hundred miles to set in though, and go ahead, send in a sample

It would be interesting to note, how the engine "wore" while actively using additives in the fuel......but yea, perhaps the Seafoam would have the most drastic affect since it does contain IPA....which is said to be a drying agent......but it's still marketed, and widely USED in the intake, oil, and fuel....so even the little bit that may have leaked past the rings into the oil.....shouldn't harm anything :P

Per the can, you can safely dose 1.5 ounces of Seafoam per quart of Oil.....

For the gasoline treatment, you dose 1 oz. per gallon of fuel though

And unless you are running extremely rich, the majority of that fuel is going to burn off....so not all that much Seafoam "should" technically be leaking past the rings, and into the oil

Now, if you were taking the vehicle to high revs/redline, like most of these Seafoam-youTubers do......then yea, you'll likely see a bit higher wear numbers
wink.gif

BUT, it'll make a good baseline and/or "comparison" mark, to compare with your next used oil analysis, "without" the seafoam and high revs

You forgot to add direct injected engines get quite a bit fuel dilution... So whatever you add to your fuel can/will eventually get into your crankcase....

How much, beyond me.
