I am new to the forum(first post. I have a 01 Vstar that it's time to change the oil. I asked my wife to pick me up some oil. Well Wal-mart was out of Mobil 1 15w40. So she pick me up some Rotella syn 5w-40. What is the story on this oil? Would it work fine in my bike? I can always use it on my tractor if it is not good for the bike. But I just hate to drive 60miles to get it. Tell me what you think...

Rotella syn is a good oil. The 15w40 rotella dino is a good one too. There are some uoa's on here of the rotella 15w40 with 8000 miles on it and the report came back good.

It is popular because it is a pretty good oil for a pretty decent price. Lots of cyclist use it, i use the 15w40 in my zx9r and my dirtbike. I have run the syn rotella in my zx9r. Smooth shifting with either one.

The Chevron delo 400, mobil delvac 1300 super 15w40's are very good too. Cant go wrong with any of the hdeo's really with sensible intervals

And .... Rotella 5W-40 synthetic is *finally* out in the new CJ-4 formulation! Yea!

Odd thing -- it does *not* say "Triple Protection." I wonder if we should read anything into that?

Bottom line -- Rotella is great. The 5W-40 your wife got you will work just great. There may be more bikers running on 5W-40 synthetic Rotella than the dino stuff. That's how popular it is with motorcyclists.

Use with confidence!
