RIP. I'm sure they will have a very nice tribute for him this Thursday evening when the Giants play the Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, AL. I wish I could go, but tickets are unobtanium.

I saw Mays play several times at Connie Mack Stadium against the Phillies in the early 60's. Philly had some bad teams, but what a talented team those Giants were: Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal to name just a few. But Mays was one of a kind. As a kid I had an 8 inch plastic figurine of Willie making a basket catch. I wish I still had it for old times sake.

#1 belongs to Babe Ruth
#2 belongs to Willie Mays
#3 belongs to Hank Aaron
#4 belongs to Ty Cobb
#5 belongs to Ted Williams, who may have been #1, had he not missed three consecutive seasons 43/44/45 in his prime, due to World War 2 military service.

R.I.P. Say Hey Kid!

One of the best athletes ever to play the game of baseball…

He was like Bo Jackson of his time… Except he was a better hitter for contact and batting average than Bo and yet he had has much power.

He could throw a baseball on a clothesline 330 feet… Hit a baseball over 480 feet… And with his tremendous speed he could run down fly balls that 99 percent of mere mortals couldn’t catch…

He was a once in 20-30 year type talent.

RIP Mr Mays.. . You made the game better than when you came into it.

Go look up his career stats, he could do it all. Joe DiMaggio once said "Willie Mays is the closest to being perfect I have ever seen"

RIP Willie. I read a clip about he had a special ball cap made that would fly off his head when he ran to first base. I guess he loved to entertain the spectators which I thought was a neat way to gain some extra fame. Nice to see he made it to a ripe old age.
