I've got an old truck with a Ford 302 V8 in it, but I can only fit the short oil filter on it.
I am considering using a remote filter set up, so my question is have you used one, or do you now, and do you find it to be ok? I'm concerned about the hoses leaking due to flexing, or the connections leaking or failing.
Also, what brand do you use? Thanks!

Honestly, I'd use the short filter rather than deal with the clutter of the remote installation and real possibility of oil line failure.

Not too many worries on the hose end of things. Lots of great hoses available ..stainless steel braid if you want.

Permacool is the most popular ...and probably the cheapest. Not the highest quality ..but it will work well.

Hmm...if I wanted the best ..I think you can just get an Amsoil single bypass mount and order a Ford threaded insert for the filter.

If I'm reading the parts page correctly, you should be able to use a BK-11 single mount w/ a BP-163 ford insert.

The Permacool will run you from $29-$39 plus the traditional handling charges of $8-$10. You'll need the whole remote kit with engine adapter and 1/2" lines of whatever length you require.

I'd say that you could save some money with the Permacool setup, but it won't carry a lick in terms of quality compared to an Amsoil setup.

PM- msparks to see if it's possible to do this as I believe you can. I'll even buy the Cummins insert that you won't need for your full flow setup ..if you decide to go this route.

There are other alternatives ..

I have had the Permacool kit on my 01 Ram 1500 5.9 for about 5 years now. The stock filter location was real close to the after market headers I installed, and made changing oil a little tricky when hot. Filter got real hot also. I ran the hoses on the inside, or the tops of frame rails to protect them from road debris, wrapped them in plumbing pipe insulation so they would not wear due to vibration and tied them off in place with zip ties. I have the same set up for the auto transmission on the same truck. Just spliced into the cooler line.
