Jeffrey...

You follow what is at best a controversial practice regarding break-in, then completely disregard Porsches recommendations regarding motor oil, and now you CRY and get DEFENSIVE everytime someone questions your actions...!

Gee -

1) Multi-vis oils used to be "controversial".
2) Synthetic oils still are "controversial".
3) There is a difference between "crying" and "offended".
4) IMHO, it is the wording of the posts that are offensive, NOT the different viewpoints.

Geez guys, lighten up, this is just friggin motor oil. If you think the break in method is bogus, then monitor Jeffrey's tenure with the vehicle and learn from his experiences. Just to say he is nuts and belittle him is just wrong!

Thank you geeeman.

BTW, it's not 'weight', it's viscosity; the 'W' stands for winter. Must you propagate that idiocy?
BTW2, it wasn't 30-vis oil, it was 5-vis oil.

So what you're trying to tell me is that at operating temp, that 5w30 was as thin as a 5"vis" oil at 100degC. Sorry but to be rated a xW30 it would be no thinner than a 30wt (or "vis" which you seem to prefer to call it) at 100degC. That 5 only denotes that it passes the cold pumpability range required for an oil to be called a 5wX oil.

But apparently I'm the "dumbdumb".

Jeffry Behr, Do not sweat the detractors. We all speak rather freely here at Bobs and at some point everyone managaes to offend someone else. The thing I try to remember is that often times we do not mean to offend one another. With out body language and the ability to hear the tone of ones voice it is easy to misinterpret someones attitude through text alone. I think it would be wrong to take anything personely. Imagine this forum as a cafe or tea house were we all meet to discuss oil. Just because someone gets a little loud once in a while or disagrees with you is no reason to really let it get under your skin. I have let that happen to me twice and have now learned better!

P.S. I too have used the Moto-Tune-USA method of breaking in my car so you are not alone! Many grass roots racers and engine builders here in Michigan do the same.

Thanks for the pointer on the Redline Australian site. Yes the Redline 5w-40 specs look very good, as do the Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 and the Amsoil 15w-40 HD Diesel oil spec as well; approximately a 14.5-15.5 cSt @ 100 C and a 94-102 cSt @ 40 C. I have a heavily modified Taurus V6 SHO that I drive on the street and at open track events during the seven or so months of good weather that we have here on the North Coast. With the larger size oil filter in the stock location, it has a 5.5 quart capacity. What I have found is that I can go down to my local AutoZone store and for about $4.50 per quart, buy Mobil 1 0w-40 and 15w-50 and mix them in a ratio of 3.5 quarts of 0w-40 with 2 quarts of 15w-50 and it yields something very similar to these other oils. For the effort and cost difference, it does not seem worth the extra trouble to track down or pay the premium price for these other oils. Maybe if I owned a Turbo Cayenne, I will feel different. Thoughts ?

Well, I can tell that there are WAY too many anal-retentive anuses like Forkman to get in the way of exchanging useful information on this forum. You dumbdumbs are welcome to continue to flap your big mouths about that perfectly OK 1800 miles of "30wt" (SIC) break-in oil; I'll be somewhere else.

BTW, it's not 'weight', it's viscosity; the 'W' stands for winter. Must you propagate that idiocy?

BTW2, it wasn't 30-vis oil, it was 5-vis oil.

BTW3, the turbos are oil and water cooled, and they're just fine, TYVM for asking.

Bye.

Jeffrey Behr - I hope you won't let a few people, who lack proper decorum and courtesy, keep you from using this forum. I have very much enjoyed your posts, and have found the resulting discussion to be very educational.
