Hi, this is my first post.

1. What kind of vehicle you have
Wifey has a 2009 Tiguan SEL 2.0 Turbo with 4Motion
2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well
5W-40 or 5w30
vw 502.00
or
5w30 ACEA A3 spec
0W-40

3. Where you live
Chicago
4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
everyday, medium, stop and go mostly, some 150 trips from time to time.
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?) stop and go mostly, some 150 trips from time to time.
6. Whether your car has any known problems just replaced injectors at 40k last month.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks!

Mobil 1 0W-40 would be my default.

Castrol Edge with SYNTEC 5W-40 is probably the OEM recommendation, which is fine. I'd also consider Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40 if it is reasonably available...

Another vote for M1 0w-40. Good oil and readily available.

What oil are you running in it now and how frequently do you change it?

Another vote for M1 0w-40. If you get it from Napa, there's currently a rebate that makes it about $5/qt if you buy 5-quart jugs. I haven't found the jugs anywhere else locally. I had to order them from the Napa website for pickup at the store, but it was easy enough. Stock up!

There are several 5W-40 oils and Mobil 1 0W-40 that meet this spec. Use nothing else. Kendall is another good one.

@ Pete, the Tiguan has had her oil changed every 10 k. The first three were done by the dealer under its free maintainance progrqm. I have changed it once and I used M1 " Advanced Formula" 5w30 and a Mann filter I ordered from GermanAutoParts dot com.
I ran across this website following a link pertaing to a" G brand oil " for free. On second thought of the Turbo in mind I though I would ask some seasoned Professionals here, their opinion of what to use. Now there are two castrol deals out there now. One with " titainium" and one with "syntec" AND autozone has M1 regular and M1 "EP" onsale now with a M1 filter.

None of the "titanium" grades meet the VW spec. The only two grades that would apply to you would be the "syntec" ones: 0w30 and 5w-40 specifically.

As for M1, only the 0w-40 grade is appropriate.

If you are talking about g-oil i think its prone to shearing. Might be even more so in your ride. i also dont think it meets the spec. Those are some sick M1 deals above. If i had any of the 502 spec engines i would for sure pour the good old M1 in it thats for sure.

We've had several VW's, including a Passat with the 2.0T engine. I would religiously stay with 502 oil, until the warranty period ran out.....and like both GC or M1 0w40. After the warranty period......RT6....all the way.
