I used to be too, I had an electric tamiya Nissan Kingcab and we had a really good summer racing in the backyard with a couple buddies way back when. Built a nice track and with stock motors we had quite a bit of running time and close racing. Then one of us got a "racing" motor and the parts race began...
Honestly though I think doing a lapping day with my Neon is almost cheaper... One of us was always stripping gears or burning out speed controllers, or batteries, especially when we bought the racing junk...
