Got here a few minutes after this car ended up on its side. Not sure how long but there were several police cars there so I'm guessing at least 10 minutes.

What I found interesting was that the car on its side was still running and in a gear. The wheel was spinning!

How long will a car run on its side? There's no switch to turn it off in an accident?

Sorry about the pic. Blame my wife.

Depends how gentle it ended up on it's side. And on the age of the car. There's inertia switches (physical or using airbag sensors) that shut off fuel pumps if there's a huge accelleration like you get in a crash. But sliding in a ditch and rolling won't likely trigger it.

There was a chase last week ending in sliding into a ditch. One rear wheel is in the air and keeps spinning as they get all 4 out of the passenger windows, and it appears one almost falls into the wheel. Think the oil pickup is sucking air?

Saw pics somewhere when someone drove a ford escort up a telephone pole guy wire, it wrapped around the front tire and was just hanging there upside down. It idled for an hour before the motor seized.

Terrible to run up on these things. Not long ago I was driving to Cincinnati and was driving opposite where a motorcycle rider just crashed. Didn’t look like they made it.

Horrible.

When I was about 19 I drove past a car in the ditch and did a double take when I realized it was upside down. Turned out to be a couple of guys from my high school. One survived and the other was killed instantly.

Life is precious and all too often short.
