If I walk into a walmart , TODAY, and grab a ST filter, is it made by WIX?

Is there a chance it is a bad filter made by champ ecore?

How can I know it is a WIX?

The Wix will have 6 large round inlet holes. The champ labs will have a higher number of smaller circular holes.

If it's an Ecore you should be able to see the plastic cage through the center hole.

It is doubtful the Walmarts will have the old stock laying around anymore. They will likely be Wix made and have an effeciency rating of 95 percent for 30 microns on the box.

+1 I have even used the e-cores in the past and my vehicle hasn't blown up. Wix is preferably but supertech filters are a-ok. If you're really nervous and want something similar get a napa silver.

You could also stop by NAPA, and just buy a NAPA ProSelect. NAPA has 10% off all the time, and you can reserve it at store, and the price will be very close to Walmart SuperTech. For example, with the 10% discount NAPA ProSeclect will cost me $2.96 before tax for my Olds.

Yeah, I haven't seen old stock ST filters for a very long time at Wally. I only have 2 puro classics left in my stash, I will use the wix made supertechs after the puros.

Wix Sold Out A while back and are now made by the same company that makes purolater.. Wix is not the same filter it was a few years back.

How do you know that? I have yet to see a Wix brand that has changed yet. The Pro-tech line has changed with some combo bypass/drainback valves.

Thanks for the answers, Now that the curveball was thrown by crazyoildude, I 'll be sure to question the purchase, and spend more on a Fram ( crazy talk a few years ago) !!!!

One more question just to avoid a new thread:

Is there a chart or website that will tell me every filter that will fit my jeep i6 4.0?

I know the p16, the 3600, and the fl1-a fit, but was wondering if any others fit?

also how do you know when you have put too big a filter on the engine?

Is there a tell tale sign?

why does everybody go up in size, what about a smaller filter? why not?

Purolator makes Purolator.
Wix makes Wix.
They are both owned by Mann+Hammel (that also owns Mann Filters). This has nothing to do with the quality of the Wix line (so far). Show me one Wix made filter that has changed since the buyout. Just one.

I really wish you would quit spewing these lies.

Supertech is the equivelant of a Napa Proselect. It is their entry level/jobber filter, but works just fine for a 5k interval. Some of the filters do have the combo ADV which is not the greatest, but it works.
The Supertech filter for my mom's Saturn (cartridge filter) is the same price as all others, $2.84. Next cheapest I can find is around $5.

Get with the program pal On May 4 2016 Mann and Hummel announced they have finalized the acquisition of the Affinia group which were the makers of Wix.. In Addition to that i have seen some posts on Bitog of the new Wix filters with louvers.. Trust me its only a matter of time before they have the same problems..
See no lies here look it up before you start saying people are lying when you my friend seem to be the clueless one. Also using a cheap filter is no bargain..

Try this website. Type in a filter number you know that fits to see what the other cross reference filters are.

The Hastings and Baldwin sites also customarily list upsize and downsize options.

Essentially zero, as Walmart had them destroyed or sent to a liquidator. You will see Wix's date code format on top of the can, white lettering that can be hard to see. The baseplate will also be a Wix baseplate.

Cheap Wixes are the best economy-tier filters to buy. Walmart's ST, Napa's Proselect and Silver, O'R Microgard, Parts Master, and some others.

Wrong! Wix filters are still the same as they were pre-takeover. My 57356 made in April 2016 still has round holes.

also not due to the Purolator takeover. The combo valve pre-dates the Purolator buyout.

When on sale, Napa's PS and Silver filters are often cheaper than Walmart's prices. Also, the cheap Napas are available in almost every Wix application/part number, whereas Walmart's line is consolidated. For example, Napa has the 2- and 31315 (equivalent to Fram's 8316), but at Walmart you have to get the ST3600 (Wix/Napa -1516). Napa also has separate 7356 and 1334 (WM consolidates to the ST9688, which corresponds to Wix's 1334)

However, if you want one of the Napa filters that WM doesn't sell, those do cost quite a bit more. For example, the Napa 21315 and 31315 are about $5 each. Even when on sale, they're well over $3.

Don't worry, people were saying the same thing about Purolator before they became Tearolator. Now people blame M&H for the downfall of Tearolator. If Wix quality goes downhill you will get to say "I told you so". No one knows what is going on inside M&H and Wix. Everything is speculation at this point but the pattern that emerged for Tearolator is a bad sign for Wix.

$2.85 is a good price for this "just OK" filter. It's efficiency is somewhere around 70% at 20 Microns. Nothing to get very excited about.

The Fram TG is 99% efficient at 20 microns and cost $6. Run it for two 5k intervals which it's rated for and the cost drops to $3 per interval. Plus it has the same silicone antidrainback valve as the Ultra.

Simple answer to your question:

NEW ST filters are Wix and WHITE. OLD ST Champ e-core filters were BLACK.
