Pure Madison Avenue - 'new' Q oils from Quaker State. I saw this on cable today. I wonder if it's just a regional test market plan?

Nothing substantive on the ads. And nothing on their website yet.

Wasn't Q in Star Tek?

I'm just ashamed they used a Subaru WRX STi in that commercial... ugh... couldn't they at least embarrass a Mustang or Camaro

It seems that one of the marketing points with these oils is that they are formulated with multiple(?) FMs that reduce friction as the oil temperature increases.

They also have a line of racing oils too; "Q Racing" in 0W-5, SAE 15W-50 and 17.5W-35 viscosities no less!

Q Power

Got this from the link you provided:

High RPM synthetic blend meets SL/CF.......

What? Still SL?

Yeah, but the "4x4 & SUV" synblend and "Advanced Engine" full synthetic meet SM.

WHY? OH WHY? does everyone throw out sayings like MARKETING HYPE or BS everytime one of the major oil companies comes out with something new.

Well, this is QS new line of synthetics. Yes it does reduce friction better than most, according to test. I don't know if the blend is SL or SM, and I don't care. For what it was designed to do, I would prefer SL. All I ever read on this board is how the new SM oils are not as good as the old SL oils.

I for one like seeing the Subaru in the ad. I have one and it made me feel good. Although I would have prefered to see one of the new Mustangs with all those horses.

And for anyone that wants to know, you cannot buy the racing oil from QS. It will be sold by some speed organization and I do not know the name of them at this time, and it will not be available in quart bottles like pictured. Only 5 gallon pails.

Oh, and it works to. It did after all win the Daytona 500.

Now you can think it's market hype, bs, or what ever you want. No skin off my nose as they say. For those that want to try it, I don't think you will be dissapointed, for those of you that don't, it's your loss not mine.

There, I've said my piece and that's all I have to say on the subject.

The new line looks impressive. Yet another oil we need to see a VOA of. Looks like a lot of R&D went into it. Johnny, I think people get fed up with the whole "SUV oil" type of thing. It's kind of ridiculous but they all do it. It makes it more difficult sometimes to tell whether the product is more hype then anything. I'd like to know more about the 0w-5 racing oils. Looks like they were in quarts on the video. Also, how closely or different is Pennzoil from Q? Entirely different chemists/labs etc.?

So would I. I see "0w5" and wonder why I was worried about running 5w20 in my Chrysler.

"Heat Activated Performance..." Sounds like the antimony add MolaKule was talking about.

17w35, hmmm, Patman may approve for LS1/LS6 use...errr...well maybe as a flush oil for his GC.

Why does everyone hate QS so much? I have always felt that QS was a great product. For years, that is all my Dad and Grandfather would use in thier Small Block Chevies, and every one of those engines lived a long, trouble free life.

Have the old wives tales damaged Quaker States reputation for good?

Again, it's not that many hate the oil itself, it's the way its' marketed. "Time Release, SUV Oil, Soccer Mom Minivan Oil etc." as Molekule pointed out. Valvoline started a lot of that and it probably worked. Mobil seems to market their products more professionally. Although they too have been jumping on board with this "SUV" oil they now make. I like how Mobil justs lists the specs of what the oil meets on the back and states what cars they are factory fill in. Thats all I need to know.

I'll guarantee you the 5w50 isn't ALL Group III because you can't build a 5w50 oil with just Group III. Just as with Castrol's Syntec 5w50, this oil is probably a cocktail of Group III, Group IV, and Group V.

I'm sure it's some kind of blend. I remember reading in Race Car Engineering magazine how Shell uses Blends in some of their F1 cars. I know it's hard to believe but that is what the article said.

"Time Release, SUV Oil, Soccer Mom Minivan Oil etc."

Heh...good one, Mola...

I think BOTH camps have valid points here:

The "marketing hype" camp has a point...what's the purpose in making a separate "SUV" oil when most SUVs use the same identical engines as their passenger car bretheren? And when 90% of SUV owners (not including the esteemed members of BITOG) never drive their SUVs in anything that could be even remotely considered "off road"?

And Johnny has a point, too...just because QS may choose to dumb-down their advertising, doesn't make the product itself bad...I think most of us here can distinguish between true marketing BS and marketing which is aimed at the uneducated public in general.
