I have noticed Purolator have no quality control...
I have some Premium Plus from PepBoys when they are running $0.01 for one filter. The bottom of the filters have some metal flakes and some white print flakes.
I have some PureOne from Amazon.com when they are running $5.88 for 2. The filter itself have lots of paper flakes, a lot, I really mean a lot! They are not metal flakes, but paper flakes that I can't understand where do they come from.
I have took a look of the Advance Auto TotalGrip filter when they are running BOGO sale. Sure again I find the red paint flakes and the metal flakes on the filters.

Well... from the cheapest AA to the premium PureOne, they all have problem... What do you guys think...?
If they are not selling at this cheap price, I certainly will pick a Wix or Baldwin over Purolator.

Alot of these filter deals could be associated with bins of filters at the assembly factory that did not meet their strictest regulations....ie.. excess flaking, robotic miscues that lead to fractional measurement shortcomings....etc...etc. They are probably all acceptable by regulations standards - when offered to the consumer at a slight reduced cost.

Just a guess here.... judging by other manufacturing sectors in this country.

Iam sure there are worse things in your engine than those paper flakes. First pass they would be history anyway. Its not exactly a steril enviroment in your engine.

So true. When I was working for Maxtor that was what we did to all the DELL/HP reject HD. They have such a high standard in OEM businesses that any RMA cost them all the profit, so they demand the best quality in all components. Customers of Bestbuy would be happy if you can get an in store exchange. Fry's buy everything even if it has a hand soldered rework on the PCB.

Hmmm. I went to my local Kragen and checked out the Bosch filters that were on sale for $2.97. I picked up three. However, all of them on the shelves had some paint flaking off the base area. I chose the ones with fewer paint defects.

I purchased a Pure One #PL 14477 at local AA last week and there were no issues with flakes or any other problems. I checked several filters, even ones that did not fit my cars and no issues at all.
First time I've used a Pure One and it seems fine so far. Oil light goes out right after start and no start up noise.

I just bought 3 as well, and I noticed one of them had the paint kind of flaking by the base and it wasn't covered all the way around the base. The other two were perfectly fine though.
