I have a $20 3/8in B&D that still works fine after years of heavy abuse, bought it in the 70s, and all I've done is to take it apart, clean it, and regrease it. Nice, basic steel hobbed gears. A new 1/2in Skill lasted about a day a few years back as it had cast gears in it. After that I bought a Milwaukee 1/2in corded drill, it's like industrial art and will be something that I can pass on to my kids. I also have a 4k rpm 1/4 Makita that works great on small holes, like a laser beam. I also use a $5 egg beater drill that I found in an antique store as a cordless drill, works great on everything but steel.
